menswear work jacket v2 - “the off-duty athlete”
design process
For my second workwear jacket, I drew inspiration from the iconic "tunnel fit" style of professional athletes, particularly basketball players. This unique expression of personal style has transformed the way athletes present themselves. My moodboard featured legends like Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Dennis Rodman, each known for their distinctive fashion statements. I aimed to create an athletic workwear silhouette that blends a vintage workwear feel with modern athletic fashion trends. As I embarked on the pattern drafting process, I focused on achieving an athletic workwear silhouette. This approach allowed me to craft a piece that resonates with the modern athlete, embodying their lifestyle.

Next, i started the process of creating a tech pack for my athleisure work jacket throughout the product development process. To start, I meticulously developed technical designs using software to create precise flat sketches that illustrate the jacket's design features, such as pockets, zippers, and stitching details. Each element was annotated with notes on fabric types, colorways, and finishes to ensure clarity for potential manufacturers. I aimed to facilitate a smooth production process and ensure that my vision was accurately translated into the final product. Below are some images showcasing the technical designs and pages from my tech pack, highlighting the comprehensive approach I took in preparing for production.

The construction process of the work jacket involved careful attention to detail to ensure both functionality and style. The assembly began with attaching the lining to the outer shell, followed by the incorporation of features such as pockets, zippers, and the hood. Double stitching was used throughout to reinforce seams and ensure durability, while clean finishing techniques were applied to create a polished appearance. The jacket is fully lined, including the hood, which enhances comfort and provides an added layer of warmth. This contrasts with the first version of the jacket, which only featured lining on the inner shell of the bodices.

The intended consumer for this athleisure work jacket is the modern male athlete who values both comfort and style within their off-duty attire. This demographic seeks garments that can seamlessly transition from workouts to casual outings; to meet these needs, I carefully selected materials based on their specific properties.
The outer shell is made from a light green canvas fabric with a vintage sun-faded wash, crafted from 100% cotton. This choice is informed by cotton’s excellent breathability, moisture-wicking abilities, and natural comfort, which are essential for active individuals. Additionally, the vintage finishing enhances the fabric's softness and creates a lived-in feel, appealing to current consumer trends among young men.
The fully quilted lining, made from a polyester blend, maintains its lightweight comfort, crucial for usage across various environments of an athlete. Polyester's durability further enhance the jacket's practicality, ensuring it retains its shape and appearance over time. Through meticulously chosen textiles, the jacket not only embodies the needs of the modern athlete but also offers a stylish solution for their dynamic lifestyle.
